Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons butter
- Red food coloring
- Non-stick cooking spray
Kitchen Tools
- Large pot
- Wooden spoon
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir constantly until they’re completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the pot from heat and add a few drops of red food coloring. Mix well until you get a pinkish-red “brain” color.
- Pour in the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir gently until all the cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Let the mixture cool for a few minutes until it’s safe to handle.
- Spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray. This will prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands.
- Take a handful of the mixture and shape it into an oval “brain” shape. Make a line down the center to create the two brain hemispheres.
- Place the shaped “brains” on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Use a toothpick or the back of a spoon to create squiggly lines on the surface, mimicking the wrinkles of a real brain.
- Let the treats cool completely before serving.
Tips for Perfect Brain Treats
- Work quickly when shaping the brains. The mixture becomes harder to mold as it cools.
- For extra gore, drizzle some red food coloring mixed with corn syrup over the finished brains.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Serving Suggestions
Serve these spooky brains on a platter lined with fake cobwebs for an extra creepy effect. They’re perfect for Halloween parties, school events, or as a fun October after-school snack. Enjoy your deliciously eerie creation!
